Analgesic
The images that have come out of my Minolta while shooting my final project have been interesting to me, but not as interesting as the process of obtaining them. To shoot this series, entitled Analgesic, I’ve dealt with substances that the government considers illegal and many people consider immoral. These images are a highly personal exploration for me; when I was in my early teens, I entered treatment for behavioral issues including substance abuse, and my relationship with alcohol and drugs is the longest relationship I’ve ever had. My main focus with this series is to see myself honestly, and I’m not very concerned with what viewers take away from it. Many people use drugs and alcohol to hide a part of themselves or to take away the sharp sting of reality. My goal here is to gain a completely and totally truthful view of my own face, body, and mind on different substances, all easily attainable within the city of New York.
